If you’re looking for some good barbecue in the Akron area, look no further. The North Coast Mitsubishi of Akron team has taken the time to enjoy the barbecue options in and around Akron to put together a list of our favorites. Here are the best of Akron and beyond: BBQ in Akron.

Big Eu’es BBQ

Located at 1730 Portage Trail in nearby Cuyahoga Falls, you’ll find some of the best barbecue in the area at Big Eu’us BBQ. They’re ready to serve you Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, they’re open until 10 p.m. You can start with some fried pickles, potato skins, loaded fries, pork rolls, corn fritters, or their famous burnt ends. After that, get ready for some serious flavor in your barbecue choices. Sandwiches and wraps include pulled pork, chicken breast either grilled or fried, roasted turkey, and brisket.

Specialties include the Polish Boy with beef sausage topped with fries and smothered in coleslaw and barbecue sauce. Another great pick is the pineapple chicken sandwich served with chicken, pineapple, bacon, mozzarella, and their house barbecue sauce. Dinners come with two regular sides, bread, and a drink. Choose from the delicious pulled pork, chicken breasts, roasted turkey, chicken wings, rib dinner, brisket, beef, or chicken quarters. Sides include fresh-cut fries, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, pigeon peas and rice, baked beans, and coleslaw. Big Eu’es also offers combination dinners with two to three meat options and sides.

If you have young children along, don’t worry. Big Eu’es has kids’ meals served with a fruit cup, chips, cookie, and a beverage. You can choose from a hot dog, pork or turkey slider, brisket or beef slider, chicken tenders, and ribs. Finally, top off your dining experience with desserts such as pineapple upside-down cake, Kool-Aid pie, lemon pound bundt cake, and German chocolate cake.

Joe’s Barbecue

Only open on the weekends, Friday through Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Joe’s Barbecue food truck is worth a trip to 1293 Tallmadge Road in Kent. You can enjoy either a brisket or pulled pork sandwich or buy meat by the pound to enjoy at home. Meat options include a rack of ribs, brisket, pulled pork, turkey, and half a chicken. Add sides such as charro beans, buttermilk bacon potato salad, and smoked macaroni and cheese to make it a meal. Wrap up your dining experience with a bourbon banana pudding for dessert.

Joe’s Barbecue also offers catering for your events. One word of caution if you plan to visit Joe’s. They sell out fast, and when the meat is gone for the day, it’s gone. Joe’s carefully prepares their meat for barbecue one day at a time, so come early for the best selection.

City Barbecue

Another great place for barbecue in the Akron area is City Barbecue, located at 2870 W. Market St. in Fairlawn. You can dine in, get curbside to go, or order delivery from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. City Barbecue’s featured item is the More Cowbell, an award-winning beef brisket with provolone, sauteed peppers and onions, crispy fried onions, and horseradish sauce served on Texas toast. City Barbecue offers sampler options that give you a little bit of everything to try, including the Judge’s Sampler for two, the Family Pack for four, and the Motherload with enough food for six.

Sandwiches include pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked turkey, hot chicken, pulled chicken, smoked sausage, smoked chicken, and chipotle barbecue. You can also buy a whole brisket, whole pork shoulder, or meat by the half or full pound with selections including pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked turkey, pulled chicken, smoked sausage, and chipotle barbecue. Add some sides to make it a complete meal. You can pick from baked beans, fresh-cut fries, fried pickles, collard greens, corn pudding, coleslaw, green beans, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and a side salad. Bread options include hush puppies and cornbread.

Don’t forget to leave room for dessert! City Barbecue offers peach cobbler, triple chocolate cake, and banana pudding. You can also order party packs to feed anywhere from four to 24 people, along with pans of their desserts or a whole triple chocolate cake. Your next event could be barbecue heaven.

Jimmy’s Backyard BBQ

Jimmy’s Backyard BBQ, located at 526 Graham Road, is another great barbecue spot in Cuyahoga Falls. They serve up barbecue from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, with an extra hour on Friday and Saturday, when they’re open until 8 p.m. Jimmy’s offers daily specials Tuesday through Friday. You can get a special price on a pulled pork combo on Tuesday, Jimmy Boy on Wednesday, Mexi-Q wraps on Thursday, and a smoked salmon sandwich on Friday. They offer dine-in, carry-out, and catering options for your barbecue needs.

Sandwiches include pulled pork, chopped brisket, and a Jimmy Boy, which is a smoked sausage with pulled pork, barbecue sauce, and coleslaw. You can also order plates with your choice of up to three meats, two sides, and garlic toast or corn muffin. Meat options are pulled pork, chopped brisket, chopped chicken, a quarter rack of ribs, and smoked sausage. You can pick from macaroni and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, green beans, and hand-cut fries for sides. Jimmy’s also offers their award-winning baby back ribs in either a full- or half-rack option.

If the whole family wants barbecue for dinner, Jimmy’s has a family feast option with a full rack of ribs, pint of your choice of meat, two pints of sides, and four garlic toast or cornbreads to feed your family of four. Kids’ meal options include a hot dog or slider if the little ones would prefer something different.
